Today´s newspaper (the serious one) was a real eye-opener to me. At first I was flabbergasted, then angry- a lot. There are schools in our country where teachers aren´t allowed to work, because a) they do not talk Arabic b) are female. That´s a declaration of bankruptcy in the light of what´s happening in countries all around. Two pages later the next affront: Families who fled from Afghanistan are sending their underage daughters back to their home country for forced marriage. How come, when they were so intent on leaving this country? Then I had a look into an online newspaper, where people commented on an article about the health of the Holy Father. Lots of those comments were outright malicious. You do not have to love a person, but if you had a proper upbringing you will have learned to respect. If you haven´t, something has gone seriously wrong! The world must surely have gone mad!
After a night were the sneezing went on non-stop I fear that it´s not my yearly allergy but a new bout of sniffles. Hate it, even though I do not feel sick- but going through two packages of tissues in the space of one hour is unnerving! Hubby left after breakfast to buy new ones. BTW, I almost caused a fire in the living room yesterday evening, when I wanted to dispose of the used tissues, and a wood briquette fell out of the burner onto the staple of new briquettes. Hubby came with watering cans, son took the big metal shovel and brought the smouldering wood out to the terrace. So good that our floor is tiled!
I had to do instant ´cooking´ this morning, because number four, who was to return to Graz in the afternoon, had to take the train at twelve thirty- no seat reservations possible in the afternoon train. Since son had so much luggage this time he opted for the early train but did not want to go without having had his favourite soup (beef broth with meat strudel). Not a big affair- I had all ingredients ready in the freezer! Only a bit annoying, because I do not like to be stressed. Good thing was that when son had left I finished the decluttering of the glass cabinet and put Hogwarts next to Barad-dûr. Now if I´d only find the key to lock the cabinet! Contrary to son I had a late lunch, so late that I decided to skip dinner completely. Not that this would help with losing weight...
It was a bit warmer today, but not warm enough to defreeze the water puddles on the street. Temperatures in the house were already going down- with son off hubby had tuned the heating down. And then he wonders why I am sitting in front of the PC huddled in a blanket. My time will come during hot summer days, when hubby is sweating along, while I will feel quite comfortable without aircon! At least we will get some spring days now. Let´s see how long these will stay! There´s a lot of work to do in the garden, like the final pruning back of the apple tree, which should be done in February but not when it´s still frosty...
