Sunny prospects
May. 10th, 2025 07:03 pm I woke at five thirty to the telltale sounds of metal hitting metal (idiot neighbour touring along his garden with shovel and wheelbarrow) and because I was freezing cold- no wonder, it was only three degrees outside. But finally, Ice Saints are on their way off to more northern fields, where they belong. Would not mind if they decided to stay there forever! Hubby read the weather forecast- no more cold days save for next Friday and Saturday, but also no heat. 20 will be the max- where are the days when we hit a first 30 at the end of April/beginning of May? We have to consider building a shelter for the tomatoes hubby wants to plant. Hubby loves tomatoes, eats them all day long- but better quality means that a kilo is up to five euro. Not exactly cheap I'd say! This year I have to convince husband dearest that we need plants which produce smaller fruits, which will ripen more quickly than those with the big ones- never enough sun in our garden to get them as big and as red as supposed. Can someone remove those darn hills, please? But the pots are readied for planting, and Monday hubby and I will do a trip to the nursery. Tomatoes, chillies and peppers, but no cucmbers this year. I definitely won´t feed the slugs, of which we have aplenty. Those seem to have a fixation about cucumbers!
I did a run to the apothecary in the morning, and, of course, some prescription was not in stock, as always. I will have to send hubby over on Monday, when he has to help son with the planning of a shelter. I have to take this medications for more than fifteen years now- never had problems to get them. The fun started with covid and got worse the years following... I have to admit that my patience was quite stretched when I arrived back home and was greeted by the sound of a grinding machine. Blessedly the old tile cement was easily removed, only the garden is all dusty now. I concede that I have not been of help for this project, only assisted hubby in dragging the outdoor furniture back and forth. And hubby´s beloved old sofa, which hasn´t yet made it to the disposal site. If hubby had his way it might stay with us forever. It has been a great sofa, indeed, one with a special hiding place for cats. Schnuckele loves to slip inside the narrow hole at the bottom and sleep the day away...
I read away most of the afternoon, when hubby was off to buy wooden beams he needs for repair work and drove from one DIY market to the next - apparently even wooden beams are hard to get in times like these, and all this in a country covered in woods! It´s getting ridiculous!
Tomorrow daughter and husband will do steaks with baked potatoes and asparagus. lucky me that hubby did not forget to buy a cake. I am not willing to bake one, even though I found a few recipes which seem to be idiotproof and do not involve sponge cake- turns into a veritable disaster each time I do one! Besides, I love sponge cake with strawberries, and today´s strawberries must have been either too mushy or unripe, with no in between, so hubby did not bring any. But he bought me two new crossword puzzle books, so that daughter and I can have fun tomorrow afternoon!
And just when I was about to finish this entry the owner of Schnuckele called- cat is no more, the farmer has killed her with his mower. now there´s more than one person who is devastated...
