Hubby literally stormed in at ten thirty in the evening, very wet and in a bad temper. On the way back home he had wanted to visit the federal police headquarters, which are listed as a participant of the Night of the Museums (don't ask me why), but when he was walking down from the fortress the weather had taken a turn from bad to worse, and hubby had to skip this last part of the trip. Meanwhile at home I had to clear the terrace of hubby's working tools, secured the cover of the sofa, which was about to fly off, and barricaded the garage door hubby always leaves open (for potential burglary?). This was especially hard to accomplish, because the lights at the back of the house must have died at some point during summer. The list for repair work gets longer and longer. But the good thing with the strong winds was that they blew off the cold air. The not so good thing was that hubby lost his glasses when running to our house from the bus station. He took his old ones, two torches (I told hubby to not use the flashlight on his mobile, because he tends to drop aforementioned gadget) and did a search expedition- and promptly found the glasses. Came back in drenched to the bone but happy. It would have been the third pair of glasses he lost this year...
Today it was gloomy and wet once again, but no more cold and no strong winds. I've seen video clips of planes trying to do a landing at Heathrow Airport and thought no, thanks! Glad that I live in a country not prone to storms, even though the East aka Vienna is trying to tell us otherwise. What's called strong winds there will count as a medium strength breeze on the British Isles! The fig trees we had planted yesterday afternoon did not snap, as hubby had hoped thought but made it through the storm. I don't even know why we bothered to plant them. Apparently the trees need a special breed of wasps which we don't even have here to produce fruits. And they grow big, and quickly so! Ah well, hubby has just bought a new chainsaw...
I spent most of the day doing a bit of this, a bit of that, filling two big bags with bedding we don´t want anymore, more summer blouses in pink, table cloths and curtains in a colour that cries help. I blame it on daughter mine, she had had those chosen for her room- turquoise and lemon yellow, what a combo! Meanwhile hubby did a decluttering of gadgets hidden (by him) in a cupboard in the basement. A juice extractor and a reamer had to go and, of course, the robovac. Because this one had miraculously shed its brushes. Strange, because last time I saw the vac it had brushes but no charger. Hubby does everything to get rid of that thing and was furious when I told him that this robovac was outdated anyway and I´d buy a new, modern one. Hubby detests robovacs!
For lunch I did a raid in the fridge. We had gyoza soup and later apple cake and coffee. I added six rows to the throw and used up one ball of wool. Next week it´s about time to continue with Miss Elsa´s autumn cardigan. Haven´t added a single stitch since last autumn and need to get rid of it. At the moment it feels as if I´m mucking my life out. Haven´t felt such a need for a long time!
Number two called in the late afternoon and asked if we'd take the boys for an overnight stay next Saturday. Of course, hubby was ecstatic. Cautiously so. Damn, that man is so good at reading my mind! Besides, for each overnight stay he gets tickets to a concert. So to say he is the profiteer. Me definitely not, because I avoid concerts. The music feels way too loud for me...
