Saturday blues
Mar. 21st, 2026 07:19 pm At four in the morning I pondered how it was possible that another week had gone bye already (and how many were left until it was Christmas season again). At six thirty I finally started the day with a long, long breakfast with hubby (up, too), the daily, a tricky sudoku and a big crossword puzzle. Daily task done I told myself and immediately felt tired- only that hubby insisted that I had to write a shopping list, which I did. He was off, I took a shower then quickly did a stock-taking of what needed to be out of the fridge. Alas, it was only the milk, and this one had expired in early March- and was still okay (yes, I tasted it). Assuming that hubby would follow my shopping instructions- which he didn't and came back home without bread- I cut the meagre rest of the dark bread into cubes, roasted it then cooked Stosuppe, usually served with potatoes, at our house with roasted bread. My grandfather was not a friend of potatoes, and since he was the one who supervised my first cooking attempts I kept the recipe his way.
Today was number one's birthday, so I had a quick phone call with him, before he had to go back and follow his wife's call for help ( she seems to call all day long when at home). At least, she managed a month of work in the hospital. One more to follow, then she will continue helicoptering her offspring till September.
From a former colleague I got a specialised field paper to look over, a thing I had loved to do once but hate with a passion now. It usually means days of sitting over some boring texts, correcting spelling and grammatical errors. Haven't done this for many a year. At least this paper is fairly short, too short I'd say. I already warned the lazy sod, but he insists that there isn't more to write. Ooookay...
Daughter will come tomorrow, she must have sensed that hubby had bought asparagus. Since husband mine had to do a drive (there had been a lot of rain in the afternoon, so no biking) to the shop for bread, I told him to also buy some ham. Asparagus and ham and Bozner sauce- my favourite meal in spring! If hubby insists I will boil him potatoes, too. Hubby was born in potato land aka Upper Austria and got raised with the tubers.
With hubby back I wanted him to drag the palm trees onto the terrace. Blessedly I read the weather forecast for next eeek before hubby was ready to go- temperatures will be back to winter from Wednesday to Saturday. Easter snow might come early this year.
BTW: Son invited us for Romanian Easter (April 12th) at their house. In return he invited himself plus family to Catholic Easter at our house. It's okay, there only might be number four left as a guest. Daughter will be at work and families number one and three hopefully at home. Now I will have go google for an easy Easter menue. One that won't contain ham or lamb. Ham was on the list for Christmas, lamb I don't do. Lambs are for knitting and cheese only...
