Cat, again!
Jan. 22nd, 2013 09:26 pmVet sent me a mail why cat has died. So it´s practically me who´s killed her unwittingly via feeding her dry food for cats. Unwittingly indeed, because the dry food was what I suspected the trigger of her epilepsy in the first place, because her first seizure appeared after a period of consummation of it solely, but my belief in the infallibility of veterinarians and my pig-headed cat made me falter. Nienna had been a spoiled cat because of her eye condition and her delicate appearance. Spoiled cats tend to have dubious dietary habits. One day meat, next day chicken in jelly, and preferably said dry food. She was the only one out of three who got it, because cats number two and three got bladderstones from it. The first vet stated gastritis, gave her some meds, but did not change her diet. After the next seizure two weeks later I changed the vet, but the seizures did stay, as feared. It took some time until vet number two assumed it was epilepsy. Please note that I told both of the vets that I suspected epilepsy, and that the food was the trigger. Vet said no, I struck off the dry food nevertheless, the seizures came way rarer and were harmless, until not so spoiled cat decided to become spoiled again, consummating dry food only. Yes, here we went again. Severe seizures, lots of vomiting, on New Year´s eve she vomited blood for the first time. Harmless, said the vet, and I did believe it and continued feeding her favourite food. In June we thought she would not come through, but vets, now two of them, made it. Nienna was on a special diet now, fresh meat and wet food. No treats, no dry food. Thankfully our vet next door had bought a new house and deliberately left her cats with the new tenant who seldom fed them, so I got rid of the dreaded food rather easily. The devil never sleeps, they say. Indeed, spoiled cat, well-fed and obviously healthy, became picky again. A few scraps of dry food won´t harm. No? Thought so! Cat drew up her own diet sheet, apparently a lethal one. Her favourite food had caused an enormous gastric ulcer that burst during her last seizure. Maybe she would still live if I had not been this weak-minded. She did not die due to an unstoppable seizure but bled to death from inside. So, if anyone reads this and is a cat owner, please do not feed dry food for cats only. Fresh food is the only suitable sustenance for cats, spiced up with canned food!
