Before mum died son number two lived in a flat in Salzburg together with his spouse and Samsung cat. I did never intend to sell mum´s house so I offered him to live in there and see to heating and whatelse a house needs to not crumble away. Sony, cat number two, joined them soon after. Well, actually it had been me who then had both cats to take care of, because son and spouse were abroad more often than cats appreciate. When baby number one was on its way, travelling got postponed, and after the arrival of Corona cancelled for an indefinite period of time. The cats were back to where they belong, even though daughter-in-law was not so sure if they would accept baby Cassian as a playfellow. Sony was not the problem, Samsung was! He is not an easy cat. Fur demon, the operative word is demon, is more accurate. One moment he is sweet and lovable, the next he turns into a veritable beast, hissing and clawing included. Not the ideal precondition to become a toddler´s best friend, but it worked, and how! Daughter-in-law won´t dare and be rough on this cat, but the little one will carry him around suspended upside down, will eat from the cat bowl without getting clawed at (okay, this won´t happen when mum is nearby, she feeds her young one the way she is supposed to, from a plate, with greens and fruits and no kibble at all), and today I got a video clip where grandchild number four and Samsung go sledding. Cassian pulls the sleigh up the hill with cat sitting on it, and together they ride down. And again. And again. When Cassian takes a nap the cat sleeps next to him. When he takes a bath cat watches. Most cats do not like water. Samsung is no exeption, he hates water and won´t go out when it is raining. Only my colleague had a cat which jumped into the tub when her youngest was in. I did not believe it until she sent me the pictures: cat and boy and bubbles, lots of bubbles. I think it should be a natural thing for children to grow up with pets! That´s the only good thing that came with Corona: shelters here are half-empty here, because more animals than usual got adopted. I hope they will be allowed to stay when Corona makes off...if this plague will ever fade out of our life!
