Depression is invisible, and it might affect each of us at some point of time, no matter if we are young or old, wealthy or poor. This rotten illness makes us forget about the truth in life. It tells us lies we will give more credit than to what our mind tries to tell us. It will snuff out the bright moments in life and will drag us into an abyss of darkness. No, I do not want to allude to Robin William´s death, no matter how tragic and painful it is. It´s a dear friend of our family I´m concerned for. As the youngest child out of four she suffered greatly when her mother died three years ago. One year later, her father succumbed to cancer, that´s when depression got full hold of her. Though under medical treatment, she was no more able to work full-time. She kicked out her boyfriend, she did neglect her only son. When she finally came out of her hiding, full of new ideas, planning to buy a small farm with a few horses with the money she had inherited, we thought the worst to be over. Why shouldn´t all these medicaments finally operate? Well, she bought a farm. She even bought some horses, but I do not think she was happy. And yesterday my friend´s brother died. He was only 47, a highly gifted musician, father of two boys. Blood cancer, diagnosed two months ago, and no chemotherapy could help him. Why I talk about all this? During the last years two of my friends and one colleague have committed suicide, and I´ve never seen it coming though I´ve been in contact with them. All of them suffered from depression, all of them were under medical treatment. All I can say that they were here with me, behaving as usual, and the next day they were gone. I am fed up with loosing friends to a sickness that "should be relatively harmless, should the patient cooperate and take the prescribed drugs"!
