Today I woke at 2 am due to some noise coming from our garden. Unidentifiable noise in the dead of night never bodes well, so I tiptoed downstairs and looked out for the culprit. What I found was a young but rather tall Rhodesian Ridgeback frolicking in the snow in our garden, while our neighbours, its owners, tried to coax the dog back. Apparently a grumpy elderly woman in a voluminous nightgown who appears out of the blue has to be a horrific sight even for a dog that does not intend to return into the confinement of its owners´ house, but the Ridgeback finally leaped over the fence and sought shelter behind our flustered neighbours, who were now able to take it on a leash. Having small talk at two in the morning at six degrees below freezing point is something I haven´t done before, and I certainly won´t do so again, because I´ve got a runny nose because of that. Of course hubby missed out on the whole affair, but woe betide if I switch on my iPad in the night, then he´s up and objecting!
