Almost through...
May. 1st, 2020 07:55 pmSince first of May we are offcially allowed to meet with family again. Though- we now know we´d always have been able to meet up if wanted, only that our government "forgot" to tell us. Okay. Safety first, they say, and the more people stay at home without family visiting the less the spreading of the darn virus will happen. Ooookay- apparently we are considered too dumb to weigh up pros cons ourselves. But getting lied to so blatantly is the last thing we need now. Then there´s the somewhat strange slogan an advertising agency has created for us dimwits, so that we are able to stick to the safety distance recommended for shopping and walks:

There are many ways to estimate the required distance: a shopping cart, two arm´s lengths, one big step, two crates of beer (maybe the most popular here)- but no, we have the "baby elephant distance". Yes, of course, all of us have one of those little critters at home, so we can easily recognise if someone enters our personal safety sphere... Last thing we need is that we are laughed at by the rest of the world. Well, too late now, I fear.
Because family visits are officially allowed since today son number three brought his family, not today but two days ago, but who cares (s.a.). Tomorrow Elsa will get her first bobby car, a delayed Easter present from me to our granddaughter. Elsa´s still not walking but has perfected skidding around on her knees full speed, while clutching her Elsa doll in her tiny hands and a toy cat between her teeth. She´s watching discovery channel with her father too often, so it seems.

Now there`s six adults living in our house, four of them blessed with a hearty appetite. Cooking has turned into quite a marathon, because hubby has decided that taking care of a toddler is a rather exhausting task, and his goal is pampering the parents while they live with us. So it´s a tasty second breakfast in the morning at eight- first one is at six for Elsa and her parents, but at that time hubby and I are fast asleep-, coffee with cake around eleven, lunch at two, another coffee with cake in the afternoon. In case someone gets hungry in the evening there´s plenty of cheese and bacon in the fridge. Hobbits are welcome! I don´t do dinner, and mercifully neither does hubby and number four and five, or I´d be tempted to pack my suitcase and take a room in an inn for the next days, which unfortunately is not possible in these times. Hubby baked two strudels, one with poppy seed, one with nuts, I did cinnamon rolls, though without cream cheese frosting, because cream cheese got eaten the night before by number three and his family. Now guess what´s left of the cakes? Nothing. Nada. Not a single slice of strudel, no cinnamon roll. Fortunately there´s no lack of yeast in our shops. Will have to send hubby to get more of it.

With number three came the rain, the hard one. And the cold, as always when he´s here. We will have to activate the heating once again, or hand out blankets. I vote for both. Outside the wind is howling quite dramatically, the rain pelts against the window panes, and daughter-in-law is out in search for the buggy, which must have deserted with the aid of a gust. I can hear her swearing outside. Thank heavens it´s not me who has to be out in this weather! And as much as I have loved my dogs, but not having to do walkies in bad weather has its advantages!
