After three weeks of no new cases there was one in our neighbour town almost two weeks ago. Not that bad, they said, will happen every now and again in times like these. Then, on Monday last week, there was a small charity event with politicians, doctors, and sponsors. And one who apparently was Covid-positive. Guess what happened: On Wednesday they already tested 12 people Covid-positive, and it´s ten more now, the number growing day by day. It seems to be a mutation of the virus, with a shorter incubation period. About 200 people are in isolation now- officials working in the provincial government, three doctors of the local hospital, which is grave, because all three of them had been on duty there before they got tested, and there´ll be more, because only now it became evident that a big part of the audience had went to a pub in the city after the charity. Covid-19 is a pest and will stay this way, until they find medicament or vaccine.
Then there´s the thing with our local airport, which has been closed for almost three months. Currently there´s only one important air connection, up to Frankfurt, thrice a week. This one has been shut down today, because no plane coming from North Rhine- Westphalia will be allowed to land in our country as long as they will not bring the alarmingly huge outbreak of Covid in Gütersloh under control: 1400 people contagioned, not to mention those who packed up their belongings and fled for their home countries before getting tested. Next to no planes polluting the air and pestering the residents, that´s grist to the mill of those who want the airport be gone for good and all, especially one very business-minded lady who has repurposed part of the airport area as open air cinema. That´s the same lady who meagerly pays the students in her orchestra but makes almost all the money for herself. Since her income has dwindled because of the lack of musical events during the crisis she has quickly found a new way to make money. Let´s see how this will turn out! Of course, we are waiting for Mr. Soeders tit-for-tat response. Gütersloh might not be located in Bavaria, but it is a German town, and Mr. Soeder won´t never ever tolerate sanctions against another state. I wonder how long it will take before the borders get closed again. Not bad, you say? Many families here have member living on the other side, as do I. I have not seen my sister for more than four months. Last Sunday she finally made it over the border. I do not need a repeat of such a long wait!
Hubby has mowed the loan, and this he has found: lots of rucola growing in the grass. I took a picture of one patch, but there´s more of it, begging to get eaten. Too bad that none of us like rucola, and the one who has planted one into my vegetable crate two years ago is not back yet from university!
