Hectic day

Today was number one´s birthday. We got up early, I baked a mini chocolate cake, hubby and I had a quick breakfast then got in the car to bring son cake, bacon and rum. Son loves rum, the good stuff, of course. We got invited for an unexpected second breakfast with son and family before we had to rush back home to prepare lunch. Number two had announced his visit only the evening before, when it had been too late for a trip to the shops. Meat aplenty we have in the fridge, it was the greens we had not bought, because hubby wanted to do so in the evening, when collegues and doggie had left. Only that they did not leave before it was too late for shopping. Shops close at 6PM in the evening on Saturday, oh yes, we live a sheltered life in this country, far off all requirements of modern life. Daughter-in-law had no lettuce we could borrow (she would not mind if we forgot about bringing her a new one, lettuce with lunch always means hassle with the kids, I think neither Oscar nor Xaver have ever eaten their greens), so we had to improvise. Hubby raided the fridge and found a package with peas, so at least a bit of green went on the table to meet the requirements of Daughter-in-law number two, who is a green-addict. Lunch was a success, everyone was happy except for me. I felt tired after getting up early, baking a cake, having two breakfasts then do a lunch for six with no opportunity for a digestive nap afterward. Too much to eat, not enough time for sleeping. And just when I thought that son´s visit would last forever Cassian did the unthinkable, and pooped. There´s an unbreakable rule you have to follow if you have a small child: Never leave the house without diapers. Well, son did, so within a quarter of an hour all things got packed up, and the young family picked up their beloved stink bomb and headed home. Phew! But I cheered too soon, because the moment the kitchen had been cleaned and I was about to climb the stairs to the bedroom number three and family started a video call. Another half an hour before I finally was able to see to my needs, only that it was too late for a nap then. It will be off to bed early today, and without dinner at that. The importance of dinner is highly overrated anyway...

Sleep or shovelling

We decided on shovelling. In case our paper boy slips and falls we will get into trouble. Yes, it's snowing again. Might get expensive if you have to pay the bill for not clearing your driveway! At least one good thing came with the return of winter: my sneezing attacks are gone now. They will return in two days, when spring hopefully will be back. Yet I think I prefer sneezing to shovelling!
