We got up at six thirty, because the private snow ploughing service thought it necessary to free the street of about one centimeter of snow that had not yet melted away. With the bedroom window open this sounds really impressive, the engine of the tractor roaring while the shovel scrapes away! We opened the blinds, and this was what we saw outside:

And it got even better:

My poor prunus triloba, which had been flowering so nicely a few days ago

At seven o´clock the chimney sweep arrived. Hubby had missed that today was the date of the spring cleaning. Not that bad, you think? Technically not, only that we sat at the dining table still clad in Pyjamas. I quickly disappeared into the living room and waited for the lad´s departure, and a lad it was, maybe 18 years old, clearly a novice in this job. Before he left he told us that he had tried to phone us in the morning, to tell that he was half an hour late. Wait, did he really want to come at six thirty? No way I´d let someone into the house at this ungodly time! After he had left we continued breakfast. What I was missing now was Vaire cat, who always begs for ham in the morning. This has turned into a ritual, you can bet that she dashes down from the feeding place the moment she hears the fridge door getting opened. Now this was odd, having breakfast without a cat meowing and trying to snitch what she thinks belongs to a proper cat breakfast? So we went in search of Vaire cat. At first indoor, then outside the house, because the front door stood open for a short time. No Vaire cat in sight, not good at all. No matter how often we rattled the box with cat goodies she did not show up. All the searching had to be done in utter silence save for the rattling, because daughter dearest had drawn the short straw and had to do the presentation of her study group´s research work. That´s the problem with online lectures- you never know if docents and peers will listen to what´s going on in the house. We found Vaire an hour later, hidden behind the stack of wood under the fireplace, apparently scared stiff. Then we remembered that she had done the same the last time the chimney sweepers had been at our house. We still do not know why Vaire cat is so afraid of them, because all are nice and never have done harm to our furry pets. Next time I will lock both cats up in the bathroom when it´s that time of the year again...

It was as I had feared already: Daughter wanted a redo of some of the takes we had done yesterday, plus a new one which entailed a Belgian waffle (found one in the bread bin) and spray cream. We did a first take, then spray cream was finished. Hubby had to buy a new one, which took him more than one hour. It took almost the whole content of the spray cream before daughter was satisfied with the result of my filming. The waffle was soaked with cream when she finally had the time to eat it, and that is saying something, because Belgian waffles are tough little fellows, you have to chew long and hard to get them down because of all that caramel inside!
There are two things I have been searching for today: My brandnew external hard disk drive and the cleaning spray for the telescreen. I do not often watch TV in the living room. But when I joined hubby for his daily crime movie I noticed that Cassian´s attempts at petting the cat on TV had left marks on the screen: five hand prints made by sticky fingers. The little one had indulged in whipping cream before he decided to pat the cat in the picture down. Now I know why the little one´s father had scolded him! Hard disk drive is still on the run, but I found the spray. This evening husband dearest will have clear sight of whatever murder will be going on on TV! And I will retreat to the studio and hopefully finish Elsa´s dress...
Snow has just stopped falling, but it is still cold outside, even though weatherforecast said we´d be up to ten today, and tomorrow up to 16, so we might have spring again- for some days at least, because next week there could be more cold coming on. I wish that heaven would save up all that snow for next Christmas, because then we might love it!
