Due to the flood disaster in Germany (my heartfelt commiseration goes to those poor people who lost everything) all our mobiles get ´flooded´ with messages from insurances which want to tell us that tomorrow we might have flooding, too. ´Best` newspaper ever tells the same, while weather forecast says that there will be more rain than today, but not so much that we have to fear for our safety. This certainly does not sound dramatic enough for the self-appointed quality medium that gets two third of subsidies for quality journalism when it does not have even one newsman who is worth the money. Can´t be that we do not get our fair share of the disaster, those reporters must think. Don´t get us all worked up! Some cellars might be under water, which is a regular occurance here, because lots of houses are built too near to rivers. Many of the brooks that are supposed to go wild now got control structures over the last years. Yes, we had some minor landslides on the slope opposite our house, but those traces are old, stem from a summer where we had even more rain. ´Innergebirg´ (that´s what we call the part of the country which lies behind the first mountain range) there might be bigger slides, but we are used to it. I do not understand why everything here has to be so very dramatic for this shitty medium! Covid numbers are another playing field. When they went down, it was never fast enough, because we did not contribute enough by living in self-imposed austerity. Now they are climbing, as was to be expected, because all of a sudden there we got a few freedoms granted, especially the younger ones. Numbers in hospitals do not climb. But already big events get cancelled, clubs get closed, because allegedly people swamp the editorial office of the newspaper with petitions to make the paper stand up against those events. Aha, but why did we host two Grand Prix races with trillions of spectators then? Why were so many soccer fanatics allowed to travel across Europe, to see the games? But the moment young people might have fun at festivals fun is bad and dangerous all of a sudden. Things are bad, we will all die, omg! At least the last thing is true. Might well be that some young people not yet vaccinated (not that they did refuse vaccination, it was not their turn yet) will die early out of boredom, bereft of almost everything that promises to be fun! And in autumn we will be down to zero activities anyway, because quality medium number one and our government (in this particular order) decide that being kept at home is the best way to get through the cold season...
