We got off cheaply
Jul. 18th, 2021 06:27 pmWe have a wet cellar that eventually will dry up. There´s a leakage with a window in the conservatory. We will have to glaze this one anew. Otherwise we are fine, while others were not that lucky. The old quarter of the town I live in is a mess. Did I talk about those small land slides on the hill nearby? Now this time the slide was a way bigger one and ended right before the farmer´s stable, leading the water of the small brook which wasn´t small anymore after all that rain directly into it. Blessedly the water shot out of the opposing stable door the farmer had torn open. The cows weren´t impressed, he said, contrary to him. A supporting wall on the Primary road decided that it was done with supporting and crumbled, thusly blocking the road. The brook along the same street did an excursion and flooded road and the field across. So we could choose in which direction we would not drive. We were practically trapped- crumbling wall, landslide, flooding and the big river in the rear swelling continuously, so that the last escape road along the Salzach had been closed by the police. Number four was mad, because the cab had to drop him at one end of the flooding, and he had to walk in the icecold water to get home. Shame on him, I had sent him the videos and the message about the street being blocked. Now we are free again, the brooks have begun to return to their normal size, at least they do not swell the way they did yesterday even though it´s raining hard again, some of the dirt has been cleaned, more not. Big rivers are getting even bigger at the moment. Hopefully they will stay in their bed. We do not need more flooding, not here, nor in the main town.
Not everything went fine with the rescue action at home. We had a blackout that made it hard to block more water coming from outside with the sandsacks hubby had stashed at an unknown place in the pitch dark cellar, but after being back home husband found the culprit and we were able to get a lot of water back out again. All things considered we have been lucky, and we are grateful about it.

No more rain, please, the river is big enough!
