Aug. 10th, 2021 07:41 pm"It was a dark and stormy night. In her upper bedroom Mrs.K, wrapped in her blanket, sat on the foot of her bed and watched the trees tossing in the frenzied lashing of the wind. Behind the trees clouds scudded frantically across the sky. No moon ripped through them and created wraithlike shadows that raced along the ground, because a thunderstorm raged outside. The house shook. Wrapped in her blanket, Mrs.K shook. The windows rattled madly in the wind, and she wanted to pull the blanket close about her but stopped. It hurt! Curled up on one of her pillows, an old gray cat yawned, showing its pale tongue, tucked its head under again, and went back to sleep.”
Madeleine L´Engle´s book for young people perfectly describes (save for a few adjustments) how I felt last night. I did not sleep well, or better, I was not able to sleep at all most of the night, not only because of storm and the clapping of thunder which lasted from 10 to one in the morning, but mostly because I had caught a sunburn of epic proportions. Sister is very good at tidying, so I was no more able to find the sunblocker she had brought into the house on Saturday, to save it from storm. Lazy as I am I did not bother to look for it and spent a long nice afternoon out in the sun. I used to tan easily when I was younger, no more so now. When in bed I felt the intense heat on my back and legs. I spent most of the night sitting and watching what was going on outside the bedroom windows. After the newspaper deliverer brought the daily I must have fallen asleep- finally! That was at five in the morning. Today`s bathing got done in a t-shirt. Hubby even brought out the sunbed from the garage to lift my spirits. And Cassian gave me a wide berth today. I must have been in a very bad temper...
