A shopping spree and a burnt finger
Oct. 14th, 2021 06:57 pmI took off in the morning and came back after lunch, to finally do some shopping of the non-grocery kind. It was some decoration for Halloween I needed (Elsa and her parents will be here for a tiny celebration- her pa thinks we have still kept most of the Halloween things in our cellar, which is not the case), glitter and wood glue from Kik (thank you for the advice,
wiseheart), and then I found a really cute sweater with a giant excavator on it for Cassian, who is obsessed with building machinery, and one with a unicorn for Elsa. Hubby was not amused, because I was supposed to do Christmas jelly. The bowl with grape juice was blocking the fridge. Well, jelly had to wait until I came back. And then it was at risk of ending up in the toilet pan or whichever place seemed suitable to take in the mess. I did as always, filled the pot only half-full. Jelly made it over the rim. Took another pot, cooked half of the jelly, filled it into jam jars. I carefully cleansed the outside of the first pot, began anew with the rest of the grapes. Jelly made it over the rim again. By then I was livid. My kitchen was a sticky mess. Blessedly hubby wiped the tiles- four times. I wiped the cooker. Cooker decided that a bout of indolence might be in order and showed an error sign. I know this cooker inside out. He does not like water on the operating buttons, but I did not want to stick to the knobs any longer (I had to prepare dinner, too). After playing trial and error I remembered that I had to delete the timer and program it anew. Bingo! I was able to do tomato soup Indian style then fry poppadoms. My relationship to hot oil is a bad one, has always been. This time it´s my poor right thumb that took the brunt. So good that´s still some Flammazine in the medicine cabinet. As long as the blister won´t turn into a hole almost to the bone as it has done last year it will be alright!
