A few years ago the son of a neighbour bought himself a car which he did only drive for a few weeks. The car got parked (without numberplates) in a turn of our private street and stood there for nearly two and a half years, effectively blocking the farmer who kept our street free of snow from moving said snow straight forward into the field. The farmer complained, his sons complained, the neighbours complained (one more than we others, because when trying to get out of the tractor´s way his car touched the other one, causing a minor scratch which cost him a lot of money for a bumper for a desolate car that had not been moved for two years. The car stayed in place. Then, all of a sudden, it was off. Sold, the neighbours said. Only that now the car is back in its usual spot, still without numberplate, still without inspection plate. On closer inspection this car never had gotten a new plate. Neighbour told us that the poor one who had had the car for the last months needs a place to park it during winter, because he has to look for another homestead for his family. The truth is that this car has never been sold but only parked at the allegedly new owner- at least I hope so. Neighbour´s son never had a certificate of approval for it. I do not even want to know where he got the plates for the car from, because no certificate, no registration, no driving. And we all have our beloved old heap back in its original place, which means that the farmer and son will begin to complain again about the boomerang car that blocks the way of the snow. By the way, the mother of the owner is the one who told me that she´d be off today, Covid test in hand or not (she refuses getting the vaccine). But the testing institute has been the victim of a cyber attack from Sunday on and is not yet able to inform about the results of the testings (she would have had hers on Monday afternoon, so not a snowball´s chance to get the result in time for her trip). It dawned on her that even if she made it over the border she´d not be able to get coffee and cake and a proper lunch and dinner on her trip without valid PCR test, and having coffee and cake and lots of prosecco must be the main goal of this ladies´circle when abroad. To her horror she and her friends (all in the same situation) had to stay at home. Darn her luck, but good for those who won´t cross paths with her...
