Sleepless night

Thanks to daughter I went to bed early, which might have been a mistake in hindsight. Nine is too early, body and mind are used to ten o´clock bedtime, with an additional hour for reading. I fell asleep around eleven but woke at 0.30 thanks to the moonlight in the bedroom. More reading followed, before I fell asleep again. I think I accomplished one more hour of sleep before I had to get up at three. For the first time I missed the alarm, and hubby had to shake me awake. Daughter and I had a nice chat during the drive to the airport. Now I know that Angela Merkel´s flight back to Berlin almost did not take place, because the pilots of this (and every) plane only have a narrow time slot for piloting, and they barely made it back home, before it was over. The airport personnel did the quickest check-in ever, to avoid failure- though technically the problem was the plane´s delay, and too many other planes that needed check-in at the same time. Germany´s ex-chancellor took it easy and was hyper-friendly now that she is not in charge anymore. My sister tells me other stories... Back home I made me a cup of coffee, took a piece of baklava and went out onto the terrace to watch falling stars. I saw only three!!! thanks to moon and clouds, but it was a fine night.

Where once was light there´s darkness now- nights have gotten clearly longer, and when I went to bed at half past five it was still fairly dark. But not so dark that I was able to sleep longer than half past seven. There´s nothing a few cups of coffee cannot fix!
Autumn is coming swiftly, though we had a fine day with 26 degrees and not a single drop of the promised rain. Hubby brought the garden hose out, attached it to the pump and refilled the rain barrel, plus he watered the fruit trees and our vegetables. For next year we´ll look for a second, maybe third barrel to collect water. With water it´s the same as with other things- you have to take what you can get!

The only thing I managed today was cleaning the old travel chest of my oldest son´s godfather. It has a lot of scratches, but I think it still will look nice in the studio!
