How to kill a day

 I had promised to get DiL the sun cream she wants for her sons for holidays at my next trip to Germany. Today was the day- weather finally warm again, no rain, but cloudy. We haven't seen sun for days now. Before I started I had a look on the drugstore´s website- product not available online. That alone should have raised red flags! But the shop I usually drive was said to have 23 tubes in store. The one nearer to Salzburg had only seven. The one closest to our town had 37. I decided for the nearest shop- to find that they did not have a single tube. I bought the things I needed for myself and left. Next stop was drugstore number two on my list- the one I usually go to. It started with the way to the shop blocked by a huge building lot. I tried a side road- for busses only at the moment, and a police car waiting for people like me. I turned and soon was back to the point I had started my odyssey. This time I followed the rerouting signs- at least to a street I thought I knew well. Seams that those people did a very good job at keeping people unfamiliar with the area off the housing districts- most streets were residents-only during the construction works. But all of a sudden a car shot out from the parking space of a grocery store, and I realised- finally a local driver! I tailgated his car, and he led me to an escape route! Yet in the shop I did not find a single tube of the sun cream I needed. A very nice shopgirl consulted her tablet and told me that exactly this special sort was not available at the moment, and that those lists online never get updated. She also found that there should be a few tubes left that did not show up on the shelves. Having mercy on me she browsed through the whole sortiment- and found three tubes hidden between the sun cream for adults, which are mine now. Or better, Dil´s property. I could have kissed her! It was two in the afternoon then, and I had left at ten in the morning! There are more interesting ways to kill a day!
