What a night!
Sep. 7th, 2023 06:49 pm At two thirty in the morning I heard Big Ben, our doorbell. It did not fit into the dream I just had, so I woke- Big Ben, indeed! Hubby went downstairs and found the old lady, who lives nearby, at our doorstep. She had been looking for one of her baby cats, which she thought was locked up in the vet's pet shop. But when she wanted back out, the door was locked from outside. She left the shop through the front door, but did not dare to go back into her house- burglars maybe? So she sought help (we were the only ones who let her in) and called the police. Police came, found nothing out of order and left. And all in our household were wide awake then. Daughter mine even saw the supposed culprit of those nightly animal races on the roof- a huge marten coming from the garden and ducking under our car. We all went to bed again, but sleep did not come back, especially since said neighbour was still searching her cat, this time by calling for her from the top of the outdoor winding stair. This woman got some nerve!
Another cold morning today- this might be the first year without me having a single breakfast on the terrace! I have to admit that without Tuxedo cat breakfast has gotten less interesting- no more ´who did snitch the ham from my bread?´, but still! Daughter and I tidied the living room then had one hour left for the puzzle, before she had to leave and family number one arrived, still sans DiL, because she is on the way to Lake Garda for her friend´s wedding. Number one stays at home, to take care of the boys, even though he was invited. Maybe not the best time for having a wedding, when almost all of those guests attending have children already, who will start school on Monday!
Hubby has begun to store inflatable chairs and mattresses away in the cellar. Sunshades will follow the next days. Maybe Cassian and Flavius will come for a last pool day, because weather will be fine until Monday. Cassian is so waiting for Monday, when kindergarten will start again! Nine weeks is a long time for not being able to see friends!
There has been a wolf sighting not that far away. Who the heck needs wolves so near a settlement! First the bear than the wolf, and the farmers´sheep in the thick of it! Wildlife here gets even more interesting each passing year! And never forget- beware of our defensive cows- those who wander almost always have a dog or two. Many a cow has a calf which has to be protected. Cows and dogs do not get along well. I have lost count of how many wanderers got gravely hurt by furious cows this year! Some people never learn...
