Regarding Christkindl markets
Dec. 2nd, 2024 07:04 pm Oh, I loved them when a child. My grandfather would always take me to one, and my younger sister was only allowed to come with us when my father or mother accompanied the two of us- sister had a tendency to get lost. Not so much love now! Seems that those markets mostly attract people who are in need of mulled wine and punch- those stands, one out of ten in number, are crowded by drunk and not yet drunk, with children swarming and frequently getting lost, if one listens to the announcements. Which is sad, because Salzburg´s Christkindl market was once again selected among the top three in Europe. It is beautiful- perfectly located, no trash sold but solid handicraft. Yet there's the problem with the alcohol... however, this year I will go to the market in Salzburg, having an eye on Cassian and his kindergarten buddies- in case the boy finally decides to recover from another cold in combination with otitis. The children will do the trip to Salzburg on Thursday, so three more days for him to get better! But the event he craves to see is out of reach- no matter how hard hubby and I are trying, we are not given the location of this year´s Wilde Jagd. Cassian is so awestruck by the custom yet will most likely never be able to watch it. Being a pensioner has cut me off of all my contacts. The best ones aren´t even alive anymore. I will never forget the day when DiL complained about me introducing her son to such a gruesame tale- not my fault, DiL is a chicken when it comes to such things. Besides, it urned out that she had confused the folk legend with our rural custom. While the first one is arousing fear, a lot of it, the second one is meant to bring good fortune and blessing.
A few days ago I wrote a comment that things not yet done for Christmas on the first of Advent will have to wait for next year. Ha! Double ha! I am so far behind with decorating and baking that I will most likely be occupied for another week. I wonder how hubby does it- he promises to help with searching boxes he himself has hidden after last Christmas then is off, returning for lunch and a nap. And when I have finished my own nap he is off again. This way it will take a lot longer to get all things done!
