I was so stunned this morning at getting woken by sunshine that I left the bed early- at seven, which is outrageously early to my mind. Alas, I should have looked at the thermometer when stepping on the terrace (or what´s left of it)- eight degrees only. What a splendid summer day! But the worst is behind us- from now on we will get heat, at least they say so. From Thursday on. Culminating with thirty degrees on Sunday. Maybe. Next day- back to 18. I fear we are heading for the now typical summer in our region- summer to the left, to the right, on top and below, and in between an island of cool, wet bliss for those who love it, which definitely is not me! And all this started with the change of climate- that´s odd! Enough whining, on to my day, which was pretty unspectacular with family either on vacation, working or so far off that they weren´t able to interfere with me being lazy. I watched hubby tiling the terrace from ten to twelve, that´s the time one is allowed to make noise outside. Since the freezer was in danger of exploding by overload of shrimps I decided to do Baozi for lunch. Made the dough, hated it (yeast, eek!). After filling the dough I went down into the basement and found that my bamboo food steamer had deserted to daughter´s flat. Since I could not find the guidance to my rice steamer I heated water in a big pot, put the metal sieve on top of it and covered the dumplings inside with a lid. Worked pretty well, but now I will have to look for a new bamboo steamer, which means I will have to do a trip to the Chinese store in Salzburg. Will be near the shop on Wednesday but cannot take the steamer to the theatre with me! I also created a special dressing for the salad, one that fits with Asian cooking. Hubby loved it, I, too, but it´s about time to buy new sesame oil. I think the old one is on its way to getting bitter!
While I did some resting hubby took off with his bike and came back with Topfenstrudel for coffee. That man cannot live without sweets and has already eaten all the short bread I brought with me. We had coffee and cake next to the open terrace door, to enjoy the warmth of the sun- yay, up to 19 degrees already! Lovely, indeed!
I did more knitting in the afternoon, finally knowing the distance from armpit to shoulder I need for Elsa´s summer top. That girl is big, unfortunately a bit overweight also. But if I mix the awfully pink yarn I had separated out into the rest of the yarn I will be able to knit a cardigan matching the top. I only have to turn into a fast knitter, or summer will be gone before I can finish!
Nothing new with the evening programme- hubby will switch between Tatort and football (Italy! Most important!). Already told me so. I will try to knit in the half-dark room. Not that the pattern is a difficult one, but I tend to drop stitches, so not sure if this will work! At least I won´t be prone to snack on peanuts this time!
