It seems...
Mar. 9th, 2026 06:40 pm ...that we are out of sunshine for the next two weeks. I know that we need rain, I could see it in the fissures on son's lawn, I can see it in our own. It's only that after such a dark, foggy winter even I crave for sunshine. That says a lot, because spring sun triggers allergic pustules on my skin, until it gets used to sunbeams. At least, weather was not so bad today: windy, cloudy with a bit of sunshine in the early afternoon. Tomorrow night weather is about to change, we might even get some blood rain (that's when rain mixes with Saharan dust).
Hubby dragged the lemon trees to a sheltered area on the terrace. They have started flowering, but without bees (seldomly found in a conservatory) there'll be no lemons. Not so sure if the bees are willing to do their job so early in spring, but hope dies last! I tidied up the leaves the trees had dropped during the relocation, mopped the floor then ended up at the conservatory table, continuing with the jigsaw. Not much success there, so where's daughter dearest when I need her? Oh well, most likely at work. And if not, enjoying her life! I realised that my penchant for persistence has greatly suffered in advanced age, because I gave up too soon. Went upstairs and tidied the bedroom instead. Did a bathroom cleaning while hubby warmed lunch. My new tactic is paying off- I cook double rations but will put half of it in the freezer, since hubby and I usually won't eat the same meal two days in a row. But now I can feel like not wanting to cook, because there's always something to defreeze at hand!
Hubby took my car to the gas station for fuelling- poor commuters, who often depend on their cars, prices for fuel went through the roof! And he tackled the problem with the tyre pressure, which always arises at the end of winter. Pressure gauge says everything's okay, car cries no. I hate it when my car starts to jingle. Car in front of you has slowed down- ring! Too cold, too much sidewind- ring! Snowflakes, raindrops on the sensors- ring, ring, ring! That car is old, but someone hss clearly overdone with ringing equipment.
The not so funny thing in spring is that the moment snow and ice are off, sport climbers are out and climb the rock walls of the Barmstoana. And often enough they fall. Today was such a day. It's depressing when one has to watch the helicopter flying them off, some to the hospital, but most end up in the morgue.
In the late afternoon daughter's godmother showed up, wine-addicted neighbour in tow. Since last-mentioned lady broke her arm on New Year's Eve the two spent a lot of time together, with godmother doing the driving, the other lady, well, the drinking maybe. Thank God that I did not have any wine in the house. Unfortunately, they brought their own, but it did not take long until the wine-loving lady had finished the bottle, and godmother was ready to bring her back home, before there'd be another accident. I was finally able to call it a day. Imagine- that lady is 83 years old and not any wiser- I don't get it!
