Baking adventures

That's me to a T. I love cake, but I do not love baking. Yet I decided to make something sweet for coffee that most likely would not go awry. So a crumble it was, with nectarines and raspberries. I always use a Youtube recipe (the ultimate berry crumble) where I have a bottom layer of dough, which makes the crumble neater when served). So I cut the fruits then made the dough, put the crumble in the oven and did not tell Alexa when it was time to take it out. It's the golden brown crust ot the top layer which determines when the crumble is done. Unfortunately, in this case you have to stay near the oven and have a look at it every so often. Well, I did- at first. Then I got a bit distracted by Olympia, and because those athlets were sweating so hard I decided I needed a douche, too. And that my grey hair needed extra care which added another five minutes baking time. Only when I sunk onto my throne seat in the studio to watch rhythmic gymnastics finals I remembered the crumble. Good thing is it was not yet burned. Bad thing is that nectarines were not very juicy plus I had added cornstarch to the fruits so that juices won´t soak the bottom too much. Crumble looked edible though a bit dry. Can it get worse? Apparently, yes. Because Namo cat loves all sorts of cakes and tries to get a piece of all of them hubby thought that keeping the cake tin hidden in the oven was a good idea. Well, it would have been had the oven cooled down already, but no such luck, hence my crumble went from dry to extra dry. I just made a huge jar of sweetened heavy cream that will go with the crumble. I only hope that no one will choke on the cake, crumble, whatever...

Oh, poor you! Sometimes fate just won't allow us to make a decent cake. I'm fairly good at baking, yet sometimes things I've made dozens of times without a problem, will go horribly wrong. I'm sure the family will appreciate having something sweet, though. Even a dry crumble is much better than no crumble at all!

So, Námo cat loves cake? A friend of mine used to have a dog that was crazy about baked goods, too. Unfortunately, the dog was also allergic to wheat flour and found its sorry dead by finding its way to six stanges of walnut and poppy Strudel and eating them all! (My friend thought she'd put the things well outside the dog's reach, but apparently its reach was waaay longer than one would have expected.)

There are definitely only a few places a dog won´t get access to! We had dogs for more than 30 years, and I can tell you some stories about food getting snitched. My worst fear always was that a guest would bring cake sweetened with xylitol, which is fatal for dogs. Only that dogs don´t know that fact and snitch nonetheless!
