Weather is bad again. 16 degrees in the morning, windy and rainy. So I decided to finally pick up daughter´s contact lenses from the optometrist. Darn thing is that the shop is located in a shopping centre, and when the weather is bad locals and tourists will storm the stores, because there´s not much you can do here when it´s cold plus rainy outside. I thought to leave early which was impossible when daughter, who came home at midnight, needed two new blouses ironed and son was not able to find his vaccination passport (he´s going back to Graz this afternoon to get his second shot against covid). I came to the shopping centre at nine thirty and already had a hard time to find a parking space. It was no fun to plough through so many people, but I did it, picked up the lenses, paid a small fortune in comparison to the price before covid times (is there a thing that has not risen in price?) then raced back to my car and headed for home. No more shopping for me this week save for groceries. Rain and cold will stay until the end of the week. Salzburg is a small town with not many places to go when it rains. We have a zoo, a beautiful one, with huge fenced-in areas for the animals. You can visit the cute castle nearby, but you won´t be happy to get wet from top to bottom in the trick fountains which are the best thing there. I so love the mechanical theatre! So tourists may opt for a visit to one of the museums in midtown, which might be hard to achieve if they will be part of the rain weather traffic jam and arrive at a car park that is already closed because it´s filled to capacity, and where you even cannot queue because then those who want to travel across town cannot drive on because you are blocking their way. I love my former home town when the weather is good but hate it when it rains!
The high wind we had yesterday tore the grapevine from its fixture. Hubby does not yet know how to get it back up. If we are out of luck we will have to saw down most of the part that carries the grapes. Even worse is that the cemetary administration informed my sister that the willows mum had planted when my father died got unrooted during the storm. Hubby and I drove to the cemetary and removed the small trees. Too bad, because they were pretty to look at, but most of the roots had been severed. Now I will have to look for a new planting...

You've really been unlucky where the weather is concerned this summer. I wish I could send you a few degrees and some sunshine. We're baking in our own juices over here; unless there's a sudden Platzregen, like last night, which then comes in through one of the several leaks of the balcony. I really hope this building insulation will solve that particular problem, or else I'll have paid a stellar sum and lost my private satellite TV for nothing.

Oh, you'd be delighted if you'd live where I live! Platzregen every hour, all day long!

Salzburg in nice weather does sound lovely — but I can understand why it is no fun at all when it rains. Here's wishing you some late summer and autumn sunshine.

Salzburg is indeed a lovely town, and since there´s Covid it is definitely less overrun. Yet on rainy days it is hell to get into town.
