From bad to worse

When I read about the death of our neighbour I thought he might have died because of a heart attack. But the wife of the deceased has just been here with one of her sons and her sister, to bring us the death notice. Her husband has hung himself, and she has been the one who found him...None of the family knew about any personal problems. He just went into the garage, when his wife had went to bed. The family is in uproar. The father has been a total family guy, so no one knows about the reason why he killed himself. No farewell letter, nothing which explains the reason why he thought he better commit suicide...

I talked a lot with number four about the situation and came to the conclusion that son is only following the leads his study gives him, which is that it´s the people around a person are those who have to recognize that something is wrong. Not exactly helpful in case a person does not show any signs of being troubled, so help might not come at all.

Oh how very sad. His poor family. Covid seems to have had that affect on some people it seems.

A younger friend's husband killed himself earlier this year, and she basically gave me a lecture on not blaming the person when I said that I thought it was very selfish of him to not consider how it would devastate her and their 5 year old daughter — but I still think it is a selfish thing to do under almost all circumstances.

I am totally with you. Committing suicide is an act of selfishness, and even more if you won´t at least give an explanation why you thought you´d have to act this way. The worst kind of selfishness is when you do it at your home. What about those who have to live there further on? He and his wife have built the house together for themselves and the youngest son who livers there with his wife. How can they continue on with the thought of their father having ended his life in a place they have to pass by daily?
