New Year´s Eve has always been about preparing sandwiches for visis or peole visiting and having some glasses of champagne now and then. Not that long ago we did the visit-your-neighbour tour, bringing sandwiches and prosecco with us for proper drinks and nourishment. 2019 we had a first hiatus, because there´d been a flu epidemic which had made it into the houses nearby. Hubby and I were preparing for our flight to NZ, so we did not want to push our luck. The following year it was me who was a bit sick. Then came the Pandemic, and we were told to meet with only a few people, or better stay at home. Yet we did a visit to a neighbour, albeit a short one. Next to no fireworks were to be seen. We had not even brought sandwiches. Pandemic is still here, and this year the rules for meeting are even more restricting than last year. I will do salmon sandwiches anyway, because son number three and his wife are always hungry, even when pregnant. The two have been at a sushi restaurant for lunch and left Elsa with us. Blessedly we have aunt Lil at home now, or I´d have been tempted to strangle grandchild number three. The goulash I did for today did not make it for lunch, because, you know already, son and DiL are always hungry. Hubby did noodles instead. Now they are off for a visit with number two´s family, so I can cool down a bit. I have sandwiches now. I also have a headache, must be the weather. It´s 16 degrees outside with föhn blowing heavily. No more winter in sight here, at least not until the middle of January. Someone must have siphoned off the snow we were to get...
I have finished two more squares for the next blanket. There might be more knitting for me this evening. No visits to neighbours today, because hubby likes it cosy with son and DiL None of them will make it into the new year awake save hubby maybe. There´s a princess´s sleep to be guarded! Number four has left for Graz in the morning. Daughter will leave the next hour. I think this will be the most boring New Year´s Eve ever!

Welcome to my world! We haven't seen a soul at New Year's Eve for at least a decade or so. The most excitement today will be when we walk along the corridor, so Mum can hang her cards with the New Year's wished onto the door handles of every neighbour. Then we'll get bored in front of the telly and drink our alcohol-free kiddie champagne at midnight.

I do not intend to make it until midnight today. On TV we still have programs running that keep Elsa occupied, mostly Tom and Jerry and the like. Hubby is in the conservatory smoking a cigar. Sandwiches had to get served at six, because son and DiL were so very hungry, and are almost gone already. I had two glasses of champagne and will have another one later, and that's it. This is not how New Year's Eve is supposed to happen!

We rarely go to bed before midnight, so waiting for the new year won't be a big deal for us.
