To those with cats: I need advice, as soon as possible ( at least before I go and strangle my cats). Since I have begun to feed our former neighbour´s four cats, in case the lady who originally was entrusted with that task is absent again, my cats´ behaviour has changed drastically: they are less affectionate, picky of a sudden when it comes to cat food, they fight with each other all day long, and when they miraculously do not fight, they search for the neighbour cats´ kibble. And they pee: onto piles of laundered clothes, into flower pots, on plastic bags. The male one even climbs into the cat toilet, puts his posterior out and urinates directly in front of the litter box. The litter box is cleared out twice a day. Today I had to mop the bathroom floor thrice. And when I was finally done and went back to the living room, one of the cats had pooped into the ash tray, right in the middle of it. That does it. My cats get their fair share of affection, the cat tray is clean, I buy the food they liked before, but I won´t give them dry cat food, as I do with guest cats. I have paid money enough to cure the cystitis they got from it. I have a good mind to grab them and chase them out ot the house. Only that we do have a lot of fast driving cars there. I´d really like to know if they are misbehaving because they have to share my affection with other cats, and if there is a remedy for that.

Oh dear. The only advice I can give you is try to give them more affection and separate them as much as possible from any contact with the other cats and anything to do with them. The peeing all over the house is telling you they're upset. They don't like the change you've made with feeding the other cats and view it as your bringing new animals into their territory. You're feeding the other cats outside, right? And yours inside?

The neighbour´s cats are fed outside, there´s no contact between the groups save that two of the "foreigners" made it into the house twice but were chucked out immediately. And my cats get lots of petting and cuddling. There is folks enough in our household, so none of them should feel neglected. Maybe it´s having their opponents right under their nose constantly. Neighbour cats enjoy to sleep on the outer window sills all day long.

I think that's it - they don't like the other cats around. Hopefully they'll adjust and get over it.
