It's wintery
Dec. 29th, 2025 02:31 pm At least the actual temperatures feel like real winter. Today the highest we had were minus three. Still no snow, which is good for me (I had a few errands to run today and more tomorrow) but bad for the vegetation. I fear there will be quite a lot of fatalities among the more delicate plants in our garden. I rescued two palm trees I had stored outside by dragging those into the garage, which is open on one one side. So isolating foil got wrapped around the plants in hope that it will be enough- the following days are said to get icy.
Having to run errands (bank, post office, grocery shopping) was horrible. Loads of people everywhere. No parking spots. Motorcades on the street. I promised to take grandsons to a thermal bath, but will do so on a weekend after the holidays are finally over. There's next to no snow for skiing, so people go for bathing. Son and I did cook lunch together- I made Bombay potatoes, he the chicken curry. What was left got stored in plastic containers and is off to Graz now, because the good thing is that we are family-free now- son left for his home in the early evening. Number four gets after me, dislikes too much talking. Hubby is the exact opposite- he talks a lot, just like his mother. I was so close to pack my small suitcase, drive son to Graz and have an overnight stay at his flat- too much talking makes my head hurt...
But I had a phone call with a friend I haven't seen for a while. She will come over for mulled wine and cookies tomorrow in the late afternoon so that we can sit in the conservatory with Christmas lights turned on. This friend is talkative but nice and never stays long, which is always a good thing after nine days of besiegement.
I fear I have another cold coming on. Scratchy throat, tickling nose- must have been my journeys into the frozen garden- saving plants, tidying the lawn, refilling bird feeders- there might be snow the next days. Might be too late for some of the plants...
