Which means in English ´mummy does cook, but in a different way´. Mutti was what hubby and his siblings did call their mother. I told him to never ever use this word on me, or there´d be imminent divorce. Hubby still fancies Mutti´s cooking and wants me to do the same recipes over and over, but I am definitely not ready for such a thing. So I told him that he has so many sweets in form of cookies and the like throughout the day that there´ll be no sweet main dishes on the menue on a regular basis. And less noodles and potatoes. When hubby left in the morning to visit a construction fair (what for?) I dashed to the basement, opened the freezer and, after much searching, found a single chicken fillet next to a mass of frozen bacon. I also took out a package half full with shrimps and marinated chicken and shrimps in honey and sriracha (and some other ingredients that would never have made it into mutti´s cooking, because she did not even know such things existed, starting with sriracha). Made a lemon-jogurt dip and cooked rice. The outcome? Hubby loved it, though I am pretty sure that tomorrow he will act out revenge- I already found three knockwursts in the fridge which hadn´t been there this morning. Well, tomorrow is one of the days of the year I definitely won´t do the cooking. Most likely I will spend all morning in bed, trying to recuperate after watching Super Bowl. I am frantically trying to remember the game´s rules one of my student´s had tried hard to explain to me. That boy had been a football fanatic, and often wrote to me via Whatsapp during the game, sending me pictures of the football atmosphere at his parents´ home. My guess is that there had been more than one fanatic in this household...
In the afternoon, after a short rest spent with reading, I went outside to start dismantling the winter wreaths. I am still not ready to waste those straw wreaths and makramee rings I use for the base. The biggest one has a diameter of eighty centimetres and was quite pricy, when I bought it a few years ago. Don´t even want to know what it will cost nowadays! As always, hubby soon noticed the dried twigs and loaded them into the wood burner, because those will burn easily. Soon after he had to put them out again, because he forgot about the ever-present pieces of wire- that´s why I had put all twigs next to the dustbin. Oh my! But the weather was pretty warm today, so I thought it was time to free the fig trees from the protecting hull to see if they had died during the long cold period. Fortunately I had a look at the weather forecast before, which forecasts another cold front next week. Okay, technically it is winter still, only that we haven´t had a winter so cold and long for quite a while. The only thing missing was the snow. Not that I was the one who missed the white menace, but there are people who love skiing, which was (and is) limited to ski runs, because next to those is green only. We had lots of accidents, deaths even, those last days, because skiers ended up on rocks usually hidden under lots of snow. Nevertheless I will do a drive to the nearby nursery this oncoming week-they have spring plants cultivated for outdoor planting, not the delicate, non-hardy ones they sell in most garden centres, which will die when more than one cold day will sail in.
Hubby bought secondhand ice skates for Cassian and Flavius, which he had to pick up in the late afternoon. I used the time when he was off to prepare the cheese pizza I (we?) will have when watching Super Bowl. Even found a small slice of gorgonzola hubby forgot to eat for breakfast. Gorgonzola on cheese pizza is a must! Then I prepared my overnight bag for the long stay in front of the TV- hubby was a bit flabbergasted, when I showed up in the living room with my pink toilet bag- but better be prepared!
