Feb. 10th, 2020 06:11 pmI have been watching Sabine playing in the garden for the last hours. That storm is a poor imitation of the one we had about a week ago. Disasters announced don't always happen. A few fierce blasts, rain sailing across the landscape horizontally for about an hour, some car alarms going off when the storm rattled at the vehicles, and that´s it. It´s still windy, but it could be way worse. In the newspapers it was like" Oh my God, what´s coming upon us?". Sure, Ciara-Sabine has wreaked havoc in big parts of Europe, but not here, and for that I am grateful. Yet a bit more of reluctance on the part of the media would have been appreciated. Caution should be exercised, but panic? It´s the same with the Corona virus: Spread tension, fear and panic via media among people yet at the same time be disappointed that no one here has caught the sickness yet, because this would enable the press to spread even more fear and panic. Sabine did not much harm here. Trees falling, electricity off for some time. The things that weren´t supposed to take flight did fly with Petra already and are at the waste site now. The only thing we had to worry about was the way we´d get daughter back to her college. Rail traffic in Bavaria had been closed down for an undefinite period of time, yet tomorrow daughter will have to write another exam then do papers together with her assigned project partner. Now that Sabine has considerably calmed down trains are in service again, and daughter is halfway to Innsbruck already. That took a load off my mind. I really do not like to drive during windy weather. Not on a highway that winds around every dung heap in the vicinity. That´s not a highway but a dual country road without service lane.
Do I sound cranky today? Might be because I am cranky. I went to bed at 5.30, after a very entertaining Oscar night had finally come to an end. Unfortunately I decided to take a nap in the guestroom. Bad idea, very bad idea! Spent the next hour to keep the cats from jumping onto the doorhandle to get into the room, which involved a lot of swearing on my behalf and a lot of angry meowing on behalf of the cats. And just when I was about to fall asleep our neighbour began to hammer like crazy, to secure the sidewalls of his makeshift conservatory. I am pretty sure the exaggerated storm warnings made him do this! And then hubby came down from the master bedroom. The moment hubby is up and running you can forget about sleeping. That man is a wandering professional noisemaker. I will have to catch up on sleep this night by going to bed early!
Btw: Now I will have to buy Parasite on Blu-ray. That movie sounds promising!
