Mar. 22nd, 2020 08:15 pmWhat I did consider as a veritable nuisance in the beginning turned out to be a lucky strike in the end, because now that the world is in the choke hold of Corona this vacation might have been the last one for a very long time. Not many airlines will be liquid enough to take off after such a disaster, many of these have been on their last legs for quite some time, with Alitalia leading the way, this one spreading infected passengers all over the world when other airlines already had cancelled their flights. It makes me sad to see those horrible pictures of people suffering in Lombardy, a region I know very well, because I´ve spent many a summer there, with my father co-operating with an assurance company for two months in summer, which gave us plenty of time to travel around there. Already virologist talk about no soccer games this year, no Olympics, no sports at all, and there´s a lot of people who cry yes, yes, yes, we so do not need people crowding in stadiums. What they forget is, that if peolple may not be allowed to come together in stadiums, there won´t be any concerts, cinema, opera festivals etc. either, and no social life in restaurants and beer gardens. That would turn into a shutdown of epic proportions, killing what is left of the economy.
We are one week into confinement here, with everything closed, even parks and children´s playgrounds, and I am already going up the wall. Cannot use the garden much because of birch pollen allergy, risked a short time outside sneezing and coughing and found that tomorrow we´ll have rucola for salad, which has been sprouting like mad because of the warm weather. Well, warm weather is gone, might be snowing tomorrow, which is bad for my primroses and the apple- and cherry blossoms. Hubby has been mowing the lawn yesterday in an attempt to defeat the onset of boredom. Honestly, lawn mowing on the first day of spring has been unheard of in our household until now!
Here´s some pictures from our garden

The grand children are in contact via whatsapp only, because I suffer from respiratory problems caused by asthma, and the little ones, while not in kindergarden, might still spread the infect. Two days ago there was a Corona party at our neighbours, the good-for-nothing son (sounds bad, I know, but this one´s been caught with drugs too often for me to like him) and his friends loudly cheering the virus to make short process with all those pensioners in the neighbourhood, at least until the police came. Never mess with your neighbours when one of them is the vice-mayor of the town, this our Corona-crazy drug addict will better take to the heart for the future! I only wonder if the poor father will have to pay the penalty, which is quite costly for such a violation of emergency law. Son of mine kind of violated the law also, because today he took hubby´s car and drove to Graz to pick up his PC. Universities are closed until after Easter, maybe longer even. No learning on-line available, so no wonder we mostly have low-ranking universities! Son was afraid the police might stop him, because his main residence isn´t at home anymore, but he´s working for a local drugmaking company for some weeks, one of the few firms still up and running here.
I have taken up knitting and baking, things I have not been interested in years. Okay, I have knitted two jackets for the littlest ones, but that has been because I was about to liquidate my stock of wool. Daughter-in-law brought even more wool, so I will have to stick to this hobby. It´s also nice to have a slice of cake when looking for new knitting instructions. Hubby does the same while looking for new cooking recipes. He´s also the one to take care of the shopping, done between eight and nine in the morning. He´s always been an early bird, so he does not mind having breakfast at seven. Now let´s see what the new week will bring for us! Best wishes and fingers crossed for the ones outside who are not as lucky as we are! Boredom is boring, but having your plans crossed is really bad!
