Hard luck!

Our family has planned a big meeting on the fifth of December, with all the grandchildren present for St.Nicholas. This is a custom not all of you will know, where an old man displays the bishop, slips into a red and white garb, puts a beard before his face and puts on a fake mitre then comes into the house together with his escort from hell, the krampus.

After lecturing the little ones so that they might behave more to their parents´ liking Nicholas hands out fruits, nuts and sweets and leaves behind children who either are in awe or speechless with terror. Or screech like mad, that´s the third option. So hubby decided to search for a Nicholas, and even found one, a neighbour´s acquaintance, an old man yet fit as a fiddle, or so we thought. He was the one who represented the bishop, his son the krampus. Well, not anymore. The old man died two days ago. Went to bed and never woke up again. A week ago he had been up the mountains, hunting for deer, and now he is gone. I did not know him well, but the few times we sat together at the neighbour I got to appreciate his straightforward and down-to-earth personality. He will be sorely missed!
Since Covid 19 is overrunning our country way harder than the first time we will go into a second lockdown, that´s for sure, we only do not know when it will start. Hubby has obtained all things he needs from the DIY market, I have stocked up on wool for knitting, and from tomorrow on Hotel Mama is re-opened. Number four and five will be back home again. Universities have shifted to distance learning only. Huzzah, cooking for four adults instead of dining in restaurants more often, as hubby and I had agreed upon, that´s the stuff that dreams are made of! And because number two remembers those Halloween parties we had once, when we were younger and more adventurous, he will come for dinner on Saturday, a dinner I never wanted to cook. Now I only have to recollect those recipes son still swarms about! And I need more pumpkins, because Cassian deserves some carved ones!
