I cannot deny that it´s true what they say- Alpine dwellers are slow in general and have a different take at life. Seasons must have accomodated themselves to this character trait. It takes a long time for them to show up. We had autumn in winter, winter in spring, something like spring in summer (we still do not know how to call this abomination), and now we have summer temperatures in autumn, with day time too short to fully enjoy what we have been gifted. Yet I love the current weather: days on the border to really, really warm (we had 26 today), yet it gets cool as soon as the sun is behind the range of hills, so no need to switch the aircon on. I did a bit of embroidery in the morning sun and realised that I am definitely not a patient being. After a few mishaps I put the pillow case down and started something more satisfying- like googling the history of wine-growing in my hometown. [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat mentioned elderberry wine which reminded me that a long time ago real grapevine had been planted on the hills amidst Salzburg, so warm was the climate. I remember having seen paintings depicting the vineyards on the hills. After the first hot summers vintners tried the same again- outcome was unsatisfying. Some years we were on the hot dry side, and this year there was so much rain and cold that the vine was vulnerable to plant disease. Not that I´d ever buy a bottle of it. There´s two simple words that make it almost unaffordable in comparison to other wines: organic and very, very sparse. And most likely on the very dry side...
This week we will see more of Cassian. He has been asking for me all week long, but since I was sneezing and had a light cough DiL had kept him at home, to be on the safe side should the virus have made it into our house. Isn´t it sad that you are no more allowed to have a simple cold?
